My theory about 52 is it didn't come from Egypt. I think it came form West African boxing and southern African boxing. One of them I heard called kandeka .

nice, shows the links to what would have been the full Afrikan forms way back. 52 and Capoeira have the same fuidity and many other links

If you want to make Capoeria practical you will wind up with 52.
There are habits that a Capoeirista has that a very bad in fighting: 1) overtly flashy moves, 2) very little hand fighting, 3) very little ground skills, 4) most importantly always giving up their backs by spinning.
Please don't tell me how there is a difference betwee Capoeira "play" and Capoeira "fight" -- the play and the fight should be the same.
As Bruce Lee always said, "train the event" - if the event is street, go!

I have personally used capoeira against, ninjitsu, aikido, kali, western boxing, muy thai, MMA, kung fus, taekwondo and Jeet kun do. The bottom line is conditioning focus experience and intuitiveness that win fights not technique alone. Capoeira is from the street and has existed for over 400yrs. It doesnt NEED 52 or any other add on.. we choose 52 because it is in our cultural family and we want it to grow and florish throughout the world like capoeira has.
