This sample video is from the DVD that came with Tadahiko Otsuka's 468-page reprinted book. Originally published in 1977, this 13-book set known as "Goju Kensha Karatedo Goju-ryu Kyohon, Shidoin Course" which translates as "Goju-ryu Karatedo Complete Teaching Guide for Teachers." This set of books set a standard that other karate books have not been able to accomplish. The original 13-book series from 1977 is extremely rare, and if you were to find it, then be prepared to spend at least $800 to $1000 for it. The book boasts literally 1000s of pictures and no karate library should be without this book. This book/DVD set can be purchased on ebay. All 13 books have been condensed into one hardback heavy volume. On ebay search for "TADAHIKO OTSUKA 468pg BIBLE Okinawa Goju-ryu Karate"

  • this kata looks like heian shodan in shotokan karate

  • Yes, if it is Shorinkan, then it belongs to Kobayashi group!

  • But definitely it is Shorin Ryu! I dont know is that Kobayashi or Shobayashi (obviously not Matsubayashi) but it is Shorin ryu! Maybe Shorinkan?

  • Also should add the "Bible" is a very good book. Unfortunately for me it is all in Japanese and I don't speak Japanese :P. My sensei has a copy gifted to him by Ohtsuka himself when Ohtsuka visited Australia and the Dojos of Shihan James Sumerac.

  • @shogun10 You are correct in that Master Ohtsuka created his own system. It is called Goju Kensha. southernrocka is also correct about the lineage.

  • @zepetido Yes but your full contact fighting does not include strikes to the head. What's the point?

  • @southernrocka - this is a Pinan and Otsuka is good but the Japanese did not create Karate. It is an Okinawan Art and they are not Japanese. And he learned from Okinawans.

  • @shogun10 - Maybe you know this by now but Otsuka Sensei is a Goju Ryu Master but he also studied Shorin Ryu. This is recorded under the name of his original art.

  • @southernrocka - Shuri Te Master Seko Higa?

  • Pinan Shodan an original Shurite kata taught to Proffessor Tadahiko Ohtsuka by Shurite Master Sensei Seko Higa who was Sensei Chojun Miyagis favourite and senior student so therefore it doesnt get any better than this nor more original !!.....

and the linage continues to this day and remains true and precise without modification..
