Specifically the radio transmitter modification allows you to plug in a mockup cockpit control system to interface with your remote control appliance. This is an easy method for example to create a helicopter flight training device, and airplane simulator or other control system. If this is a 7ch radio but the receiver only has 7 outlets, how can you run ail., ele., throtle, rudd., gear, flaps, and a smoke system and still plug in a receiver battery.
