Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore, whose department was responsible for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, emerged from his hyperbolic chamber Jan. 4, 2011 to proclaim that 3.5 billion people watched the opening ceremony alone! He called it the most-watched event "in human history". Your humble servant was there to correct the Conservative cabinet minister. The International Olympic Committee reported in July 2010 that it estimated the actual viewership of the entire Games to be 1.8 billion around the world. Still, it attracted a bigger audience than Moore's favorite sport, mixed martial arts.
