This is my Kurzweil K2000 VP with the upgraded v3.87 OS that can read any K2 series sounds including ISO CD's.

This video demonstrates the K2000's sound quality and versatility using presets from the 'Electron Bomb' CD that came with my Kurzweil CD-ROM drive. I randomly selected a handful of presets for this demo. There's a massive amount of other great presets on this sample cd.

Here's my demo of the K2000's virtual analog capabilities:

  • Great Video!

Actually, i'm looking for a K2000 VP, after I saw your Demo.

Is it really important to have the v.3.87 Chip?

Did you ever compare a K2000 with a K2000 VP? K2000 VP and above do not have the classsic samples of the old K250. But the K2000 has them installed.

Which one would you recommend, and how much would you pay?

    Thank you!

  • @spielor0815

I upgraded to the v3.87 chip because it allows me to use any K2xxx series sounds.

My first K2000 wasn't a VP, and to be honest, I never noticed any difference. All I know is this synth is underrated and sounds amazing.

You can find a K2000 VP on ebay now and then, but I wouldn't pay more than $500 unless it's is fully loaded, meaning sampler upgrade, both ROM boards, everything works including fx, and v3.87 chip.

Just ask the seller ALOT of questions.

    Good luck.

    Hello, its me again...

They are selling the Kurzweil PC3 61 brand new for 1000 Euro. How would you compare the K2000 VP with the PC3? K2000 VP with the 3.87 Chip are so hard to find here...

By the way: Playing on a Solaris (John Bowen) didn't impress me half as much, as your K2000 Demo did.

  • @spielor0815

Can't help you with the PC3 Kurzweil, sorry. I know nothing about them. Just listen to demos of them here, ask the people demoing them about VA sound, fx, etc.

And thanks for the JB comparison compliment!

  • I appreciate the time and effort spent to set up the scene in an non-distracting manner without going overboard on the moodyness. I wish the camera on the synth lcd were magnified to read it better but that's not a complaint on you, but me getting older and blinder every day. I have a K2VX which is essentially the same but maxed out from the factory with all options. It's an awesome machine with unlimitited possibilities if you know how to program it. Thanks for your videos.

I changed the size and brightness of the display for my later K2 videos after realizing it was just too small. Thanks for commenting.

  • @spielor0815 The PC361 is the same as the PC3 (76 keys) and PC3x (88 keys) but has 61 keys. The PC3 LE is a cheaper version of the PC3; less polyphony and simultaneous effects and less controllers, but it does have decent drum pads.

The PC3/PC3 LE can't load programs of the older K series, as they don't have sample memory. There is also a PC3 K however (such as the PC3 K6) which has 128 MB of sample memory (flash, so samples are retained if turned off) and can load programs for the K series.

  • @spielor0815 The PC3 is superior the K2000- The only edge the K2000 has over the PC3 is the fact it can load samples (which is a feature of the PC3K only).

  • Anyone know how to transfer SCSI material to a Firewire drive? I have tons of great samples that I made with my K2000 but they're all on a SCSI drive.

  • @blakeyonthebuses

Great. Get one while they're still cheap.

Be sure if you get a K2000 it has the v3.87 OS chip, or just install the chip yourself. Otherwise you won't be able to use some of these powerhouse sounds.
