In this video I'm going to show you how to achieve "correct" skin tones with a by-the-numbers approach.

The ratios for CMYK are: C = 1/3 to 1/5 of M and Y, Y should be a little greater than M.
In LAB the ratios are: a should be slightly less than b, both should be positive.

Bear in mind, this is just a starting point and there's no such thing as a correct skin tone, just a pleasing one.
