Kupfer is a program to change, speed up and make everything about files and programs more fun on your computer. Kupfer is heavily inspired by Quicksilver; you use it to summon an application or document quickly by typing the first parts of its name. It can also do more than getting at something quickly: there are different plugins for accessing more objects and running custom commands.

This program is an exploration of the user interface -- how do you use your computer? You can take part in Kupfer: Use it, learn it, master it; imagine more things you need to access quickly without thinking too much about it. Read about smart things you can do with it and come up with new yourself.

Kupfer is written using Python and has a flexible architecture; the implementation is simple and makes the easy things work first. The goal is that new plugins can be written quickly without too much programming -- only the stuff that is absolutely needed.

When kupfer is running then anytime you type Kupfer's keybinding its window is presented immediately ready for a new query.

  • Love this app. Thanks for telling us about it. A little late to the party i know. lol. How may i ask do you get your kupfer to have your gtk/emerald for the titlebar? All i got is the default stuff. I would like it to be more consistent with my theme.

  • @30belowsummer it came like that with this old version but the newer versions got different themes also so check those out

  • a really stupid question: how do you access the selected file actions at the 4:58 mark? I have read kupfer homepage too, still can't figure it out lol

I think you were saying type in selected file, which didn't do much on mine.

They have Ctrl+G set as the shortcut for "select selected file", maybe that's what you used in your clip? That didn't work either.

  • @mechhisui highlight a file, then open kupfer and type selected file, it should be the same icon

  • @gotbletu that's odd, somehow mine is registering the keystroke as a simple text string ('selectedfile') like in your brush teeth example; the only action i can take from there is to display that on the screen..

oh well kupfer looks better than synapse without the advanced features anyway, thx for the video!

  • @mechhisui yea i think they changed to hotkey since this video was made, using different hotkey for text and file

  • there is also a plugin so tht it works well with gnote or tomboy (I prefer gnote less memory hungry)

  • must have app.

You forgot to show how easy it is to install packages with kupfer.

  • Awesome app, way more productive than Gnome-Do, thank you very much.

  • Awesome. I like your wallpaper - where could I get it? Thanks.

  • I just opened Kupfer and searched for 'kuper preferences'. Done.

  • What backend does Kupfer use?

  • True, grome do does crash =\

  • Hi. Kupfer is not showing up in the system tray. I am using LM 11 GNOME. Is there another way I can access the Kupfer preferences?

  • @gotbletu Thanks man. Looks like Ubuntu Software Center still has this version. I love the comma trick. My productivity is so much better now. Again, thanks bud.
