On a beautiful and cloudless day in Spring, QR Heritage steam locomotive C17 974 headed the Australian Railway Historical Society's annual steam train excursion to Laidley as part of the town's Spring Festival celebrations.

Unusually, the train commenced at the Ipswich Railway Workshops, the birthplace of Queensland Rail. This was due to a major track closure between Ipswich and Brisbane's western suburbs.

At the beginning we see English Electric Locomotive 1620 coupled up to the train along with the steam locomotive. The diesel was left in the South Yard at Ipswich as a backup incase of a failure with the steam locomotive as there were no other trains running that weekend as a consequence of the track closure.

  • awsome two part videos paul, now im sure alot of austrailian fireman and railfan's might disagree with me on this. but as much as a fireman's goal is to maintain a nice clear clean stack. i see nothing wrong with some smoke now and then just for the camera.
