Glenn Miller Story - released in 1953. Watch more at: http://www.youtube.com/profile?gl=NL&hl=nl&user=Ccvanl#p/a
The film follows big band leader Glenn Miller (1904-1944) (James Stewart) from his early days in the music business in 1929 through to his presumed 1944 death when the airplane he was flying in was lost over the English Channel during World War II. Prominent placement in the film is given to Miller's courtship and marriage to Helen Burger (June Allyson), and various cameos by actual musicians who were colleagues of Miller.
In 1954, the film was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Screenplay (by Valentine Davies and Oscar Brodney) and Best Score (by Henry Mancini and Joseph Gershenson). The film won the Oscar for Best Music Recording, by Leslie I.
Some of the legendary musicians who make cameo appearances in the film include: Louis Armstrong, Barney Bigard, Cozy Cole, Gene Krupa, Frances Langford, Marty Napoleon, Ben Pollack, Babe Russin, Arvell Shaw, The Modernaires, and James Young (IV).

  • @snuffingtown I am with you Luv. Please. Let's see the entire movie here!

  • @Ccvanl Glenn opened every show with Moonlight Serenade. It was his signature song.

  • @LadyRoyce I can think of NO BETTER music in the world. FAR BETTER THEN THE JUNK OUT THERE NOW!

  • @mecwag The same with me Luv. I am 55 & when I was about 12, my Mum had ordered a different 6 record set from "Readers Digest" & what came in was the 6 record set of Glenn Miller music. I thought she was upset & I told her, "Mum, if you send it back, I am sure they will send you what you ordered." She wrapped her arms around it & said, "DO YOU WANT TO DIE?" "OK Mum. OK!" I bless the day that record set came in & I learned to play a Cornet & Miller music in school band.

  • I saw this movie back in the early 70's. My family was on vacation to Wheeling, WVa and we were going to the WWVA Jamboree at the Capitol Theatre. My little brother took ill, and I got to go back to the motel to babysit. Fortunately this flick was on TV! I remember watching this and I wasn't quite as upset having missed the WWVA Jamboree.

  • Just wonderful. Oh one person with a dislike is an tone deaf fool.

  • I am 61 years old and my parents raised me on Glenn Miller. I loved this movie! The only drawback (that I can see) was that Tex Beneke did not appear in it.

  • @blueband2010 My friend, you're in a class by yourself!

  • RIP Mr. Morgan - as Chummy MacGregor, in “The Glenn Miller Story”
