Nana (ナナ, Nana) is a Japanese shōjo manga series written and illustrated by Ai Yazawa, serialised in Cookie published by Shueisha. There is an anime adaptation, as well as two live-action films. The first twelve volumes of the manga series have cumulatively sold over 22 million copies.As in 2005, it has sold over 34,500,000 making it the fourth best selling shōjo manga worldwide. The manga derives its title from the name of the two main characters, both of whom are called Nana. What sets them apart, however, is the stark difference between their lives. One Nana comes from a small town, following along with her friends and boyfriend, looking for a goal to obtain, while the other Nana's goal is set on making her dream and band, Black Stones, among the best. The two Nanas are brought together in what has become a major success for Ai Yazawa and the shōjo genre.[citation needed]

Nana is presently being released in North America by Viz Media. It ended its serialization in the August 2007 issue of Shojo Beat and was replaced by Honey and Clover. It will continue, however, to be released in tankobon (graphic novel format). The manga has also been adapted into a highly successful live-action film with a sequel released on December 9, 2006, and an anime adaptation that premiered on April 5, 2006. The anime adaptation has subsequently been announced as licensed for release in North America by Viz Media. In 2003, the manga won the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōjo.

As of July 1, 2008, there are 11 volumes available in English in the United States, with a 12th volume set to be released on September 2nd.

I love the way her voice sounds (: Its not like perfect. But,Its so good! And its suits her character in the show. She's my favorite character in the show!! We're kind of like in a way. :D

@lovestef2000 yeah true , the only reason i wont read the manga is because i did my research and i found out that Ren dies , and i honestly cant stand it when a character dies .

@lovestef2000 blast is bla (black) st (stones) might have something to do with the kanji in the translation.

does anyone know why they call them BLAST in the english translation, but call them Black Stones in the japanese version?

@cincinycat14 she spoke in past tense because she they were actually telling the story through out the entire anime and manga. you should read the manga it is pretty much the same as the anime, but the manga is more complete I think u would love it and it would it will be clearer too why she spoke in past tense. It is great, but Ai Yazawa never finished the manga, because she kept getting sick. I guess she was working too hard. I wish she could have finished it....sigh

Glade to know i wasnt the only one that cried at the end of the anime :'( , but i still love the anime ! btw does anyone know why she always spoke in past tense ? please tell me if you know
