The first mainline steam move of the new decade and of the GWR 175th Anniversary year probably could not of been better as it envolved a member of the GWR's most famous and loved class, the 4073 'Castle' Class.
1936 built number 5043 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe' was hired to haul a private charter on Saturday 9th January, "Ken's Birthday Express", from Tyseley to Gloucester and return via Kidderminster and Worcester both ways. We see her at Ashchurch for Tewksbury, near Cheltenham, running 15 minutes ahead of the 1227 booked time.
theonlyadsrulz and I headed off to Cheltenham Spa station after this to see the 'Castle' running to Alstone Carriage Sidings but the loco didn't turn up after an hour of waiting after the booked time, so we decided to call it a day and head home as it was bloody freezing!! (It was even snowing!)
snow - just when the mainline workings came to a halt steam ventured on :)
haha

Nice shot! I got her coming past Eckington on the way town, then drove up to Old Hill Bank in Brum for the return.
