Part 1 of 2 of my book review of the penny dreadful, "Varney the Vampyre or The Feast of Blood" Including some of the original illustrations. This first installment is a bit irreverent, due to several unexpected laughing jags.
It's interesting that Varney the Vampyre and Joeseph Sheridan Le Fanu's 'Carmilla' were the two biggest fictional influences on Bram Stoker's Dracula.
I've read Carmilla several times but am still hunting for a reprinting of Varney and have only read bits and pieces of it.
