    We didn't use this, we used one of the basic spot hand-helds, but a SPOT unit saved my friends life. He had a bad fall dirtbiking in the middle of nowhere and we hit the 911 button. An hour later there was a helecopter picking him up.

    Extended Batteries are cheap insurance, you can get enough power to keep your cell running for several hours without charging again. I have an extended battery that will completely recharge my Infuse 4G plus a bit more. It cost $20, I could have gotten one that more than twice the MAh of the battery in the phone but not right now. You have plenty of options.

    So, if the cellphone battery is dead, you can't track anymore? Only send an SOS? That doesn't seem very efficient as smartphone batteries don't last very long in the back country.
