Hi everyone! This is my review of the Window N50 GT 5" Capacitive Android Tablet. Its running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the latest 2.1 SDK from Rockchip, and has a nice fluid OS. All I did was add a different launcher, Launcher Pro Plus(pay the $4 to get the Plus version, it has the best icon sets out there!), and I rooted it with GingerBreak(thanks to XDA for that!). All told, this is the smoothest, nicest tab I have used yet for a ridiculous price of around $120.00...unheard of for a capacitive screened tablet that actually works. Everything I threw at it from games to web browsing worked without a hitch, smooth and bug free.
It's 5" screen size makes it very pocketable, it even came with a decent case in the box that helps keep the screen scratch free, nice. Battery life was it's only week point, getting only around 3 1/2 hours with wifi on, and 4 hours with it off. Not a deal breaker by any means, but I had hoped for better with the 5" screen size. China really needs to step up its game here if it want's to stay competitive.
To sum up, I love this tab! Window did a nice job with it hardware/software wise and with just a few tweaks the N50GT is as nice a tab as your likely to get for under $150.00. More than that you can't possibly ask for. Highly Recommended!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask below and I will answer to the best of my ability, thanks for watching!

I got my N50GT from: www.mp4nation.net

Here's a good solution to the poor battery life:
I just did a review of the app JuiceDefender. With the Ultimate version($5.00 in the Marketplace),it gave me tons of settings, including CPU control, to reduce the power drain on the poor battery of the N50GT. It added on average of an additional 2(two) hours to the battery life boosting the N50GT to just around 6(six) hours! Here's my review:

Here is a link to an excellent post for users that love to game on their N50DT/GT's. Very well done!

  • Thanks for the quick response, but I'm confused in that the H50GT battery consumption (and Easy Battery Saver- have also tried Juice Defender) says the Cell Standby is using 80% of the battery????

  • @MrDoubledad Tell me about it! Its the "legacy" stuff in Android that gets ported over to tablet use. As the GT dosent have any cell hardware AT ALL, it would be wrong to believe that that can possibly be causing any battery drain. Thats why custom firmwares eliminating that function dosent always result in increased battery life.Easy battery saver, btw, isnt nearly as effective as a properly set up JuiceDefender ;-)

  • The BEST battery solution is to root/disable cell standby, but I would need you to post a video on how to accomplish this on the H50GT

  • @MrDoubledad I tried this with a custom firmware that was created just for this...and found the battery life just as bad. Disabling cell functions dosent always work. I find that if you use a good power management app(like JuiceDefender, its FREE),that you get much better results, and you dont need to load a different firmware to do it. The standard rom on the GT is great,no need to change it at all. Roting is easy(gingerbreak)if you need to do it as well. Leave it as you get it,its the best way.

  • Hi there, nice review, do you have a link for the XDA thread that has the rooting instructions?

  • @stevencsk79 All you have to do is go into XDA and search for Gingerbreak,or just Google"gingerbreak"...thats what I did :-) Just remember to use the latest version,I believe I used 2.0 or 2.1.

  • Again thx, no hardware - no usage... Makes sense!!!

  • @dragon2knight Thanks!

  • @thebloodychoppers As I cant put a web link here I'm going to put it in the main text above. The link is for a really well done listing of games that can be played on the DT/GT version of this tab :-) Hope it helps!

  • could i run gta 3 on this? Can you try it?
