The morning ceremony is the first of the two important ceremonies (morning & evening) in Buddhist monastic life. The morning ceremony takes place before dawn when the environment is quiet and peaceful. This is an ideal time to clear the mind for cultivation and for reflection on the inner self. The ceremony consists of reciting the Incense Praise, the Shurangama Mantra, the Heart Sutra, the Buddha Praise & recitation of the Buddha's name, making the vows of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, taking refuge in the Triple Jewels, singing the Wei-Tuo Bodhisattva Praise and the Sri Maha Devi Dharani. Finally, the merit from the ceremony is returned to all living beings.

  • May I know who are the three buddah statues? Thank you

  • Left: Samanthabhadra Bodhisattva (大行普賢菩薩)

    Center: Shakyamuni Buddha (本師釋迦牟尼佛)

    Right: Manjushri Bodhisattva (大智文殊師利菩薩)

  • I would appreciate your input regarding how/where to obtain a video of the full morning practice.

  • Google 佛教 早課, click on the first link, and #10 on the first page should be the same video that you can download.

  • thank you.

Can you tell me where this took place?

  • This ceremony took place at the Yuan-Guang Buddhist College (圓光佛學院) in Chung-li, Taiwan.

  • Extremely beatiful and Wonderful

  • It would be called "Chan" if it's Chinese, Zen if it's Japanese. And Seon if it's Korean.
