The Goodnight Kiwi - Holmes 18th October 1994

A story about the final broadcast on Channel 2 of the Goodnight Kiwi (19th October 1994) as broadcast on Holmes on 18th October 1994 on TV ONE - TVNZ. Includes older versions of the cartoon from the late 1970s from South Pacific Television. TVNZ has decided to bring the Goodnight Kiwi back starting 1st December 2008 at 7:30pm with a new set of cartoons and a slightly updated version of the music that you hear in this video.

i remember sometime around 1995, maybe 1994, when they screened the whole thing on holmes, as people wrote in about it going off air, that was the first time i had in fact seen the goodnight kiwi

At 0:30 you can see the Kiwi in 1976 was shorter than the 1975 version and he's making an evil grin at 0:39!

Good to see the clips of the 1970s version I think TVNZ should release the full version of this to YouTube or stick it on their 50 years of TV site. Like the 1980s version we all know now seems to have several uploads on YouTube and TVNZ have it on their site plus you can watch it on TVNZ6 but the 1970s version I doubt anyone has it was not like their were VCRs around for people to record it back then.

I agree completely with the woman who comments about the music. The lovely Maori song used for the "Goodnite Kiwi" is indeed SOOO soothing..like so much of beautiful Maori music is! =)
