Who was Ali bin Abee-Talib R.A?

Short Biography of Ali bin Abee-Talib

Ali R.A was the son of Abu Talib, the paternal uncle of the Prophet SAW. His mother was Fathima bint Asad ibn Hashim and she was the first Hashimi woman to give birth to a Hashimi child. She accepted Islam and emigrated whereas her husband Abu Talib died on the polythestic religion of his forefathers. Ali R.A accepted Islam at the tender age of 6 - 10 years old when he seen the Prophet SAW and his wife Khadija R.A reading Salaah. Ali R.A was married to the Prophet's youngest and most beloved daughter; Fathima R.A. Whilst he was married to Fathima R.A, he did not have any other wives.


•His Kunya was Abul-Hassan and Abu Turab, the latter given to him by the Prophet SAW.
•He memorized the entire Qur'an and recited it before the Prophet SAW.
•He was the first Khalipha from Bani Hashim, the clan of the Prophet SAW.
•He narrated 586 hadiths from the Prophet SAW.
•He was a courageous lion on the battlefield and it has been reported that the Prophet SAW gave him the standard on the day of Khaybar and told him that victory would be in his hands.
•Ali R.A was a fine judge and Umar R.A said "Ali is the best of us in judical decisions".
•Ibn Masud R.A narrated that the prophet SAW said "Looking at Ali R.A is an act of worship".
•Ibn Abbas R.A said that Ali R.A has 18 excellences that no one else in this Ummah has.
•Ibn Abbas R.A said 300 aayat were revealed about Ali R.A.

@choudhry9 I read about it in "The History of the Khaliphas who took the right way" Jalal ad-Din as-Suyuti (Taha Publishers). Really good book Mashallah.
