I could listen to Frank Zappa's guitar playing all day and never get sick of it.

Vai has more musical knowledge than Zappa had. That being said, Zappa had great choice of notes which made some of his stuff more memorable.

Vai reminds me of Yngwie Malmsteen. Both are fret board jockeys, neither plays with any soul or originality.
