The Canadian Federation of StudentsManitoba and Make Poverty History Manitoba have joined together to build a province-wide campaign calling on the government to take concrete action to end Manitoba's heartbreaking poverty crisis.

We petition the government of Manitoba to implement a plan for a Poverty-Free Manitoba that includes targets and timelines, and is adequately financed, in order to meet the goal of reducing poverty in Manitoba by at least 25% by the year 2015.

The plan for a Poverty-Free Manitoba should centre on guaranteeing the right to food and water security, housing, public education and childcare, healthcare, meaningful employment and social assistance.

The face of poverty in Manitoba: 125,000 Manitobans live in poverty, 29% of Aboriginal peoples live in poverty, One in five children live in poverty, 32% of recent immigrants live in poverty, 16% of Manitobans with disabilities live in poverty, 33,000 Manitobans are unemployed, $19,000 average student debt, 1,111 people on waitlists for Manitoba Housing, and 42,000 Manitobans rely on food banks every month.
