tttaylor18 let me take u bac bout Whitney, she came out as a pop singer not R&B singer. When she was commin out wit a lot of songs bac then, black people was not feelin her cause they didn't feel that she was singing for them...remmber she got booed @ da soul train awards but when mary came out, she changed R&B. She interdouce R&B to da Ghetto so by that she is da real voice of R&B.

Your correct,I dont desire to denigrate marys talent as im a fan, When whitney started, her producers (Clive Davis) saw that her appeal went over well with all races, like Micheal J. While over the years her songs attempted to show that she is still one of us,in particular with her song directed to clive"on my own".Its sad our people cant allow the broader world to enjoy our talents without us thinking that someones selling out. should barack obama be president of america or just black people.

I remmber when Clive Davis said that he really didn't try to make her an R&B singer, don't get me wrong I respect Whitney a lot n that's how it is in music, u have to sing for them cause if u don't then ya just wastin there time n for  obama, idt america is ready for a black president he will get killed.

yes clive wanted her to sing to a broader community ,and r&b was not broad enough for him, thus she felt she needed to rebel against clive and incorporate more R&B into her repertoire,as for [any] presidents potential for death in office. I thank god that Dr,King didn't surround himself with people who would allow such a notion to deter him from seeking a fairer scale of Existence for his people.
