@larlar752000 I did some more reading last night...there's a lead coating on the tube and the manufacturers have been using safety circuits since 1971. Anyway I hope I haven't been zapped since I've spent many hours sitting at a work bench next to these sets.

@whiskeyify Yea but either way that TV is about 10 years old and still they give off radiation just like a big box flat screen does. I know that LCD TVs and Plasmas give off radiation still but it's nothing that will harm you unless you're exposed to it 24/7 for a very long time.

@larlar752000 Not so...X-ray protection has been built in to sets now for many years. In the old days if the high voltage went too high the set could give off x-rays. Now there is protective circuit that will shut the set down if that happens. I'm 62 years old and have been fixing sets for a long time.
