This movie is filled with the myth of the Black Legend of Spain's alleged terror. So historically inaccurate. Also, Elizabeth's victory at the Battle of Gravelines was not as monumental as it was portrayed to be in the film.

@torysama So typical. Is presented with fact that debunks the protestant 'We are saints Spain and its inquisition is evil' thought, and turns to conspiracy theories to try and justify it.

@MrCorocotta I'm explicit enough. My comments aren't vague. If you can't understand my point, then you should ask an adult for help. ;)
-
@torysama, could you be more explicit, please...? Btw, the king Richard I of England gave up his amorous escapades with his cousin Philip to participate in the Third Crusade...
-
@MrCorocotta Oh please. Hundreds of thousands have died fin the name of these Religious Crusaders, namely Catholic, than under the reign of ANY British ruler. Fact is, people are still dying TODAY in the name of the Pope of in Rome. That's something the media has been hiding for YEARS. Besides, where do your alligiances lie? With the Monarchy or the Pope? T__T"

@torysama, More people were put to death under the reign of Elizabeth I that under the sum of the Spanish, Roman and Portuguese inquisitions throughout history. In this sense, Elizabeth designed a Protestant inquisition which was way more violent than its Catholic counterpart. These are the real facts that this kind of films try to hide.

@MrCorocotta But he was part of the Inquisition. You can't deny the Religiousness of the situation, specially in those times. Religion was as powerful as monarchy; maybe even more so.
@WorshipInTruth
The point is that King Philip didn't consider himself God's avenging hand (as Cromwell). Neither was he like the ridiculous character shown in the film, nor queen Elisebeth was a saint. Things maybe simple in films, but not in real life.
Philip planned the invasion of England to cut the british support to dutch rebellions and to stop pirate attacks cowardly consented by Queen Elizabeth.
Philip acted as king, not as a madman who thinks he is illuminated by God.
