Traffic and City Planning, Simulation, and Visualization

This video is a high-end photo realistic visualization of traffic data gained from a VISSIM simulation. It was produced by V-KON.media (http://www.youtube.com/user/vkonmedia ) together with the Fachhochschule Trier and commissioned by the Landesbetrieb Mobilität Rheinland-Pfalz.
The visualization shows a part of the town of Konz (near Trier and Luxembourg) in Germany. The traffic volumes of the simulation were raised by manual counts of students of the Fachhochschule Trier. At the beginning of the visualization the different layers (street network, simulated traffic and layers of the animation) subsequently are introduced. Then various scenes within the study area are displayed including sequences from the driver's perspective.
PTV and V-KON.media enable planners to produce a detailed realistic showcase to involve the general public in large scale infrastructure projects at an early stage. This is achieved by a high-end 3D visualization of a sophisticated traffic simulation based on realistic flow volumes, detailed network and signalization modeling.
Following this project the same method was used to also visualize other projects, for example the "B50 Hochmoselübergang" (http://www.hochmoseluebergang.rlp.de/ ).

@Johanyjn6: the United Nations World Urbanization Prospects 2009 Revision estimates that globally the number of people living in cities will double until about 2050. So there is a lot of traffic planning work to be done in a urban or traffic planner career starting now.
