The NHL rule book states that at no location on the ice is a goalie considered part of the play. It is up to the player to make an effort to avoid contact with the goalie. Miller was out that far to play the puck, a vital part of a team's success. If Miller didn't come out, Lucic would have had the advantage with all that speed cutting across the front.

I'm not saying this hit wasn't dirty but technically isn't it legal because the goalie was out of the crease? What the hell was miller doing? He was just asking for a shot from one of the most physical forwards in the nhl.

Must we really do this.. Play by play ready?  Lucic pursues puck. Miller takes possession. Lucic continues to pursue puck. Miller puts shoulder to Lucic. Just going by what the video shows. I saw Tim Thomas get lit up plenty of times and it was never anything for us fans to cry about because we understand that hockey is a contact sport. Thomas himself never had any issue with it either.

I only wish that Buffalo had big John in this game. Lucy would have gotten his ass kicked in this game for sure. The only thing I wanted to see was Miller hit him with his stick. Fuck Lucic and the Bruins. Glad Scott whooped Thorton's ass the next season to make an example out of him..

@BruinsBrawler- Yes,this commentator is a dumbass. That doesn't take away from the fact that this is a completely illegal hit. Rule 69.4. The goalie is "not fair game" to be hit anywhere. Period. And Lucic made no attempt to avoid Miller. The puck was long gone. Miller braces for contact once he realizes that Lucic is going to hit him. What would you do if someone 4" and 50lbs heavier was coming at you? Lucic is the real dumbass.

That commentator is a dumbass. He made it sound like he fuckin murdered him for god sakes. Clean shoulder to shoulder check, no intent to injure there. Miller was the one who initiated contact. Lucic was focused on pursueing the puck and even tried to peel off once Miller got rid of it. Where as Miller sticks his shoulder out forcing a collision. Not just saying this because i'm a Bruins fan, but it's a contact sport. If your going to play the puck, at least learn how to absorb a hit.
