@justintempler The Canadians had branch banking and werent prohibited like you just mentioned. Its the smoking gun to what was one of the main reasons to why America had so many bank failures in the 30s. For all those that like to blame "conservative" Hoover for the depression they need to be looking a little deeper into the reasons.
Btw Rothbard kicks ass!

@NicosMind Yes 1930s, I don't know how the Canadians dealt with the crisis, so I won't even attempt to comment on the differences.

@justintempler Was that not in the 1930s depression that happened? The US had 1000s of banks go under compared to Canada who had zero, yet they faced the same pressures? Or was the early 1900s the same?
NicosMind 6 months ago
@NicosMind A lot of people are not aware that many of the early 1900s many bank failures were caused because of a prohibition against branch banking. If you had a bank in a farming community & the local harvest failed your bank failed. If your local economy was dependent on a manufacturer & it failed, so did your bank.So at the beginning of the depression many banks tied to their local economy failed.
Regulation that prohibited branch banking, & the spreading of risk.helped create the problem.
