STS-120 Discovery Shuttle Launch on October 23 2007 at 11:38am. Footage taken from the closest civilian observation location; Banana Creek. Saturn 5 rocket coverage precedes the launch at the museum on location. Following the launch is a drive by of the Vehicle Assembly Building.

  • The Banana Creek VIP viewing site isn't the "closest civilian observation location". It is the closest launch viewing site of ANY kind. The safety exclusion zone is 3 miles from the pad, and this viewing site sits right at 3 miles away. Nobody is "closer" to the launch except for the astronaut crew themselves...
