School Speech Controversy

A nationally broadcasted speech by President Obama to schools has caused controversy. The complaints have caused some school districts to decide they won't carry the speech. Don Teague reports.

Conservatives have taken hypocrisy to a new level! My cousin attends a public school. There is a group of conservative parents who try to ram Christianity and "family values" down the throats of all the students. They are outraged because they cannot hang the Ten Commandments in the halls of the school (where children of many different religions roam). But, the same group is trying to prevent the President of the United States from speaking to students! This is madness.

I don't think you quite understand logic, Obama revised the speech so they could take the optional assignment out. His speech is focused around hard work and encouraging kids to graduate (God Forbid). So I take it since your against the president speaking to the school children you are also against the many schools in the south trying to cram the bible down the kids throats when many of them are from different religious backgrounds? Sounds like hypocrisy!

i don't think you quite get the controversy over it, the republicans are worried about it because Obama has been losing his approval rating so he's using the optional ''assignment'' after the speech which is where he brings kids into the politics which is definitely not right.

This is truly the the ultimate insult for republicans a President who wants kids to pay attention in school. This could lead to massive Republican Tea Parties across the nation as the right wingers realize that if kids really paid attention, really concentrated on things, instead of spending all their money on unnecessary consumer crap, and god forbid these poor kids hear some thing other than Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity. Watch out here come the Tea Parties!
