31/01/1987, Camp Nou stadium. Barça wins 3-2 over arch-rivals R. Madrid and reasserts league leadership. Lineker scores a hat-trick and becomes a Barça hero.
Barcelona: Zubizarreta, Gerardo, Migueli, Moratalla, Manolo, Víctor, Robert (Pedraza), Calderé, Carrasco, Lineker, Marcos (Esteban).
R. Madrid: Buyo, Chendo, Sanchis, Salguero (Pardeza), Camacho, Míchel, Gallego, Gordillo, Valdano, Butragueño, Hugo Sánchez.
Reminiscing those goals, Lineker, aware that rivalry between Barça and Madrid transcends sport and comes to political tensions between catalans and spaniards, once declared:
"If there had been a roof on the stadium, it would have been blown off. The sound was unbelievable. This was no derby. I knew that this was Catalonia against the rest of Spain and I was one more soldier in the Catalan army."
England played a friendly match against Spain only 18 days later in Madrid and won 2-4. Lineker made it again scoring the 4 english goals. R. Madrid and Spain's hard man Camacho referred to him as a 'black beast'.
31/01/1987, Camp Nou. El Barça guanya 3-2 el R. Madrid i referma el liderat de la lliga. Lineker marca els 3 gols i esdevé un heroi del Barça.
Rememorant aquells gols, Lineker, conscient que la rivalitat entre el Barça i el Madrid transcendeix l´esport i arriba a les tensions polítiques entre catalans i espanyols, va declarar un cop:
"Si hi hagués hagut un sostre a l´estadi, hagués volat pels aires. El so va ser increïble. Això no era un derby. Sabia que això era Catalunya contra la resta d´Espanya i jo era un soldat més de l´exèrcit català."
Anglaterra va jugar un partit amistós contra Espanya només 18 dies després a Madrid i va guanyar per 2-4. Lineker de nou ho va fer marcant els 4 gols anglesos. L´home dur del Madrid i d'Espanya, Camacho, s´hi va referir com una 'bèstia negra'.

Yes, he can, though probably he was better at it years ago. He seemed a quick learner. According to other team members he had in Barça, he was also able to understand catalan, though I never heard him speak catalan. But he spoke a correct spanish.
