WOW this is an old comment! Forgot about this completely. So I honestly don't know what I could have been getting at with what I said...though I can guess. Perhaps I was alluding to the futility they felt in the machine that was their world. That no matter what they did, passively or aggressively, the vile nature of the world they saw would remain the same. That's about as close as I can get to it all. If there's more to it, it's anyone's guess what was on my mind back then.

I.Love.This.Book. Thank you for making me aware of it, I just read it and it's probably a favorite.

They are related on the note of how hopeless and dismal things can be. Of which Brave New World and 1984 powerhouse Bartleby. :D
Though I'm cool with the idea of a remake of Bartleby wherein the story takes place in a authoritarian government. Could be fun. ;)

glad you appreciated it. let me know what you think if you read the story.
I have never read this but I did see a film based on it called Bartleby starring Crispin Glover....you may enjoy that one. Glover is a funny guy.

Read a summarized version of it during high school, as part of the English book we were given. It messed me up, but in a good way. Though I give better credit to 1984 and Brave New World for doing it better. ;)

i think bartleby is completely different than brave new world and 1984. those are novels about authoritarian governments whereas bartleby is the humble story of a scrivener. thanks for the comment, dude.
