Demonstrating VMware Netqueue and Intel VMDq, which allows these 1290 robots and 6 players to play Counter-Strike on VMware ESX without any additional latency. The system has 36 virtual machines on 24 cores using a 4-way Intel Xeon 7400 (Dunnington) system. The Electronic Sports League achieved an 18:1 consolidation ratio and expects to save $384,000. Filmed at IDF 2008. http://blogs.intel.com/idf/2008/08/vmdq_and_vmware_netqueue_will.php

  • Wait, so the game(3d graphics) that they're playing is on the laptop, but the game's server is on VMware?

  • Good stuff,ever worked at GSS :)

  • Small world [iluvmasterchief] I work just across the campus from you (in Palo Alto) ... I use ESXi to host my Enemy Territory servers for testing :D This is way beyond my meagre home setup up - an 18:1 consolidation ratio is awsome, but this server is also not your average server! I have not heard of VMDq and VMware Netqueue so I will see what they are all about ...

  • hella cool! i work for vmware in Product Support Engineering in Palo Alto. it's awesome to see it used in this fashion. esx w/netqueue rocks! Thanks for posting the video. Imagine what this can do for your data centers, folks!
