http://www.worldhistoryclass.com A short video showing the inside of the Roman Colosseum. Once I stepped into the Colosseum, I began to think back into history, and what a history this place hosts inside its walls.
Construction on the Colosseum began in 72A.D. during the reign of the emperor Vespasian, which founded the Flavian dynasty. The Colosseum was originally named after the Flavian dynasty and the completion of the Colosseum in 80 A.D.
Vespasian built the Colosseum to give back to the people. He accomplished his goal as it became a place of entertainment for both the rich and poor. The Colosseum could seat 50,000 people, and emptied in about seven minutes through the 72 exists located around the Colosseum.
Once inside the Colosseum spectators enjoyed a variety of entertainment including gladiator fights, wild animal fights, and the destruction of many Christians living in the Roman Empire.
The Colosseum was used for entertainment until 523. It laid unoccupied for centuries until it was eventually opened as a tourist attraction. .
