The James Irvine Redwood grove on the North Californian coast are one of my favorite places in the world. The serene quiet, surrounded by the giant, no humongous pillars of the mighty trees.

Sat 1st Aug 2009
ContHeaded down to Redding where I picked up a starbux.
Rather annoyingly a couple of teenage girls were talking loudly at the table next to mind about their relationship with god.. I mean persistently talking about it. Doing the talk in jibberish thing as a way of saying good bye on the phone. I mean have these muppets read the bible? In the bible, the disciples talk in other people tongues such that they can be understood. They were not in a place where everyone spoke their language and they talked jibberish. This went on for about half an hour with me getting progressively more annoyed. I then went and got my bible from the car and asked them to read the bit about the blood sacrifices. They then declared they had no interest in justifying their faith. Sigh, so shallow for two girls who were talking about it non-stop. Anyway, turns out the girl behind me was some sort of bible scholar (she had at least read the bible) I talked with her for about 90 mins. An interesting conversation, and it went v. much as my conversation with Comfort. It provides a valuable insight into the mindset, the more so as she was rather critical of some of her friends who were jehovahs witnesses who were completely logical in every other aspect of life, but checked it at the door for their religion. How is it possible for someone to see their own faults so clearly in everyone else but not in the person in the mirror?
Turns out the shits kinda hit the fan with some muppet filing DMCA against everyone just to make their lives unnecessarily hard. That sucks. I filed the counter DMCA and had a chat with DPRJones about the state of play. On my way again by 10ish. Pickup up a sideroad about 11ish for the night, but was awakened by park rangers at midnight who told me I was in a national park. Ass. Plus on the long winding road ahead there was going to be little options for quiet side roads. Went on through some road works and about 1ish got somewhere suitably quiet, although even at that I was awakened once more in the night by someone asking if I was okay.

Sun
There was a lot of traffic early in the morning (apparently its a road to some recreational area). I moved on about 6ish, v. tired. Got to Eurika about 9.30 and picked up a burger king for breakfast. Windows restarted and took the last 3 days of my journal with it.sigh.
Finished off the journal and got back on the road to the James Irvine Redwoods. Stopped at the rest area enroute for about 2hrs sleep. Felt much better afterwards. Spend about 2hrs wandering in the Tall Trees. This is still one of my most favorite places in america. Its invariably dead quiet. The sound just dies here, and everywhere you are surrounded by these massive pillars that can be a couple of thousand of years old. It almost has a holy feel to it. The quiet implies reverence.
Rolled onto Crescent City and got there late afternoon. The Thunderf00t account was suspended. I filed the DMCAs (just a copy and paste of the ones I had filed a the day before). All these distractions had waylayed me too long to get a video up. Liberalviewer (a keen fighter for fair use had msged me). MUCH to my surprise, within about an hour the Tfoot account was back up! Shortly after I got the msg from youtube saying they had established the DMCA was fraudulent. Wow, magic!
Drove out of town towards Oregon caves, found a quiet layby and kipped down for the night.

  • I've just realized.. TF needs to get a series on the Discovery Channel. They've got to have a few disposable shows they could drop to pay TF to go around the world showing us natural wonders.
