Size: 7.5 million square feet/696,773 square meters
A vibrant mixed-use project exuding energy and flair, National Harbor occupies a 240-acre parcel on the banks of the Potomac River south of the recently expanded Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge. The high-end urban density and waterfront orientation of National Harbors first phase evokes an atmosphere reminiscent of Georgetown, Annapolis and Baltimores Inner Harbor; the project blends street-level retail, dining and entertainment options with office, hospitality and residential components to create an authentic urban waterfront community.
Overall, the first phase of National Harbor includes more than 2,500 residential units, 20,000 square feet of loft office, a 100,000 square-foot boutique hotel and 300,000 square feet of residential space in twin four-story structures flanking a tree-lined central avenue. Classically derived and inspired by broad European streets like Barcelonas Las Ramblas, the avenue, a pedestrian/vehicular boulevard with a central island of kiosks, cafes and bustling pedestrian activity, opens onto a large open waterside plaza. Riverfront marina space features two dramatic structures: a 250-foot pier supporting dramatic, large-scale neon National Harbor display signage and a 650-foot pier with a canopied pavilion. A graphics/media tower enlivens a beachfront lined with restaurants, cafes, boutique retail options and a waterfront promenade.
National Harbor offers an eclectic mix of architectural styles; a contemporary interpretation complementing the traditional Washington D.C. architectural ethos. That D.C. connection, along with a planned National Harbor metro stop, links to a new water taxi service and a new Washington Beltway interchange, make National Harbor an integral part of an energized and developing Washington D.C. community.
National Harbor is unlike anything I ever seen!!! I must visit very soon!!!
