In just 4 years, Mute Math has evolved from humble beginnings in New Orleans to playing on the Craig Ferguson and Jimmy Kimmel shows. Their myspace profile has over 3 million plays and recently a contestant on American Idol sang their hit song, Typical.

At the Salt Lounge in London, Ontario, Darren and Paul chat with mindyourmind.ca about their journey to get where they are today and the impact that music has had on their lives. They also share some personal moments from their own lives and recommend a drum set and a dog, as well as friends, to help you get through the day. They don't recommend the 'vanilla ice' haircut, however :)

  • Darren is, honestly, the sweetest man I have ever met. And watching him in this interview makes him even more endearing. When you watch him play, it's sick. He just looks so cool. But then you talk to him or you listen to him speak in interviews, and he's just so nice and down to earth. Also, I live in St. Louis and I want to find that Jordan guy who set him on fire! I want to punch him in the face and laugh at him because Darren is a rock star and Jordan is a car salesman.

  • man.. i would hate to be the person who Darren King calls a jerk.

  • Agree with all the comments! I met Darren a couple of times after concerts, it is crazy how nice and polite he is and it is hard to believe that he was ever a dork and much more that he just flat out goes there and says it, to whoever wants to hear. It is very humbly and encouraging because some people just give up on themselves before they discover their calling. All people who believe that what a few people think of them is the hard truth, should have tea with this guy.

  • its awesome hearing darren king say with such conviction that he was such a loser and was picked on. Its always the losers and the geeks that end up being the coolest/ hottest people. darren fits both categories btw

  • This is funny..

    those guys are cool

  • Darren is soooo sweet, it's surreal

  • What is that fucking banging noise?! GAWD! Sweet interview though.

  • Exactly, especially considering how sweet Darren is.

  • I can't imagine life without music either, especially MuteMath music
