A drive down one of the states oldest divided highways. Starting in Excelsior and heading east to Uptown Minneapolis. Music by Hopeku from Newgrounds. Enjoy!

  • This must've been really recent, because I saw the orange construction signs by Wooddale Ave. just before the Hwy 100 interchange, and I know they're starting construction there. Aren't they going to make the streets pass over Hwy 7 in St. Louis Park to make Hwy 7 more highway-like?

  • @Bradhahn14

Yep. They have plans for Wooddale and Louisiana Avenues to cross over Hwy 7 with interchanges at each one.

  • What's so dangerous about that route? It looks pretty standard to me.

  • Im not sure but given its design compared to the other highways in the area built decades later might have something to do with it.

  • Man you were lucky with all those green lights in the first half.

  • I know I should have bought some lottery tickets or something.

  • @CptSchmidt These types of roads are always accident-prone. Roads built up to freeway standards but with at grade intersections.

  • The potholes were so bad last winter starting from just west of 101 to I-494, both ways. It was so bad that it can tear your car tires or damage suspensions! Good news, that portion of Hwy 7 has been re-paved and looks like new!

  • @roadguy88 True. Still, it /is/ only a temporary fix. I imagine they'll replace it with a single-point interchange (like they did at 55 and 100) when they get around to rebuilding that part of 100 properly.

  • Referring to the 7/100 interchange when you say, "they added stoplights to make it 'gooder'" there was really no choice but to add them with the 3rd lane added to 100. Since the merge lane below on 100 within the cloverleaf was turned into the 3rd lane the interchange was reconfigured and stoplights added until the bridges get replaced in 2014. Having two added signals on 7 does not change much since the highway already has signals.

  • Awesome video. This is my daily commute: Excelsior to St Louis Park. Thanks.

By the way, it took me several times of almost nailing that little cement retaining wall to realize how curvy the road is and how small the shoulder is. Now I try to save my knee-driving while eating Jimmy Johns and digging into the glove compartment for a different stretch of the commute.

  • All those green lights lol cool video ill be in minnesota on the 8th for school :)

  • @aswchris Agreed. I've been that way may times, and I never seem to hit the lights that well.
