PFOA is the chemical used to make Teflon and other nonstick surfaces. When reaching high temperatures during the cooking process the coat can break apart and emit potentially cancerous particles. By 2015, all companies have to eliminate the use of PFOA. Don't wait until then and opt for one of the following materials: stainless steel, anodized aluminum, copper-coated, cast iron or enamel-coated iron.

  • @KarinOll According to Consumer Reports, the Mercola pans burned and cooked pancakes unevenly and their handles came off. The video title is "Testing Nonstick Pans".

  • Here is a clips to watch: "Safe Cookware - Mercola Healthy Chef Ceramic Cookware". In other clips one can find demonstrations about what heat changes this cookware endures. That is fun to watch: "Mercola Healthy Cookware Vs. Aluminum Cookware" - it shows the heating up and then sudden cooling.

  • @GhostPirate6 Thanks for your comment. Well, if that is so, that is an interesting detail. I haven´t tried Mercola´s cookware, yet, but hope to have sth like that one day. One thing is for sure though. I don´t use teflon anymore and clips here on youtube & what Mercola said about it have created more awareness. I think this healthy-child-cookware presentation was also very informative. In the past though, the non-stick cookware I had never lasted long, even if just using wood or plastic with it.

  • @KarinOll Thing is, nothing can match the slickness of nonstick cookware. There are materials that come close but PTFE coatings are the only things geckos can't stick onto.

  • @GhostPirate6 Interesting ... Mercola has some full ceramics cookware. Suposedly reall good and wont break with sudden temperature changes. For baking, frying and cooking. Looks good from advertisment. he was addressing that problem as well.

  • Ceramic nonsticks don't last that long according to Cook's Illustrated.

  • I still don't trust aluminum for cooking, anodized or not.
