Oliver Stone's uber-villain Gordon Gekko is back in the new film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, which (surprise!) features greedy capitalists behaving badly. It might remind you of Avatar, Mission Impossible 2 or roughly a zillion other films in which capitalists destroy the environment, concoct killer viruses, harvest organs, and cover up murder in order to feed their lust of profit. Even when capitalism isn't the primary target, the representatives of commerce are often flat-out repulsive (think Jabba the Hutt).

Perhaps it's ironic that Hollywood filmmakers practice what they preach against. Sure he palls around with socialist dictators Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez, but there's no doubt Oliver Stone hopes to rake in obscene profits with his new flick.

Approximately 1.35 minutes.

Written and produced by Ted Balaker; Associate Producer: Paul Detrick; Post Production Supervisor: Hawk Jensen

  • @zonilo1 Capitalism is when the means of production are privately owned. That is not the case at all. As I said, the government owns almost half of the economy and maintains very strict control over the rest.

  • its not NEW-KILL ur.........NEW-CLEAR dumbo....say it 3 times....NEW-CLEAR...

  • @zonilo1 con't. No matter what some people on earth will have more than other people on earth. Every day you participate in capitalist exchanges, even if you try not to. You give people something they give you back something else. You both benefit, because why would you give away something you value more for something you value less?

  • @zonilo1 Depending on how you define capitalism we do not live in a capitalist state. Right now in the United States we have a mixed economy, which is more corporatist/fascist than it is capitalist. In capitalism, the government would not have tens of thousands of pages of regulation, there would be no barriers to entry in markets, government would not bail out ANY corporations. You say the "wealthy" own all(not possible) the means of production. Sure, but that is the natural state of things.

  • @Houshalter

Your obviously delusional, yes we do live in a capitalist society eversince the United States was first founded because we have a class society where the wealthy owns the means production while everyone else are slaves and Hollywood reflects the views of owns and controls the means of production (hence the racist and sexist stereotypes, anti-unionism, etc) .

  • Te "ref" seems to be having a lot of time off lately..
