@boyders16 it's a shame he became a bit of a nostalgia-obsessed act in the 70s. His eco-aware stuff of the early 70s with Al was good. Santa's Goin To Kokomo is a recent example of his self-referential obsession! Haha, shocking song. According to Mike in a recent interview he and Brian got back together earlier in the year to record new songs... but Brian isn't too keen on admitting it.
@Sheepbone Carl's voice is outrageously good on it, just a shame about the lyrics, if that had a decent set of words it would have made it onto an album. The thing is if you look at Mike's lyrics up to about 73 they're mostly really great. Somewhere along the line he decided the best thing to do would be to reference old songs in every other new track. I think if he and Brian got back together again they could do something decent, Mike's recent work "Mike Love, Not War" is actually not bad.
@boyders16 lol yup that's a great video, plus Brian's Back isn't a bad song tbh. Well, Carl sings well on it! I'm sure in that same video they mention that Mike's been married about 10 times or something. Crazy. He's done some funny tunes, Looking Back With Love is another. Everyone bitches about him, but at least he's consistent. The best was when they gave the Beach Boys that lifetime achievement award or something and he went on a rant about mick jagger. haha
@Sheepbone Haha yup! Have you seen the video of him from the early 90's when Brian was being sued for writing credit? He starts speaking the lyrics to Brian's Back and then cries, that song is like his Pet Sounds. I've been listening to his unreleased solo albums First Love and Country Love, they're actually mind blowing!
oh lord, cant beleive that it was these guys that made genious albums like Pet sounds and Smiley smile....
