One of the amazing things about Bob Newhart is that he looks almost identical now as he did then - right down to the same style of suit. Amazing talent.

My favourite ATC joke is about a German controller in the late 50s who was getting very impatient with a BEA, (British European Airways), plane which was having difficulty following his taxiing intructions. In an exasperated tone he said, "Vat is ze matter? Haf you never been to Frankfurt before?", to which a plummy English officer voice responded, "Oh yes, dozens of times old boy, but it was dark and we never actually landed you know."

Bob Newhart was the master of telephone comedy both on his show and in his standup routine. His Sir Walter Raleigh bit is the best.

@jesustea, I call Bullshit on that. There is no way that you are an Air Traffic Controller! I have been doing ATC for 14 years and we're the most sarcastic people on the planet. They teach us it in school. Find a new line of work if you can't handle it.

@vdhhk, I am also an Air Traffic Controller, 14 years. I would like to know what ISN'T funny about our job? You can't tell me that you haven't joked around a lot more than this about our jobs. I make fun of pilots and other controllers all the time.

He just spoke at our high school last week. Graduate of 1947 I think. Great Man.
