In comics Jokers real name is unknown. In original version by Bob Kane Joker told batman that he was a thief called Red Hood who tried to steal million dollars from Gotham Chemicals. Batman tried to catch him but he jumped to the river that was full of toxic waste. So was borned the Joker. Alan Moore made his own version of this. Its called the killing joke.
