Magnitude 3.8 and 4.0 on January 15, 2010

The first of at least two earthquakes shook at 9:18 a.m. Its epicenter was three miles northeast of Jones, OGS officials said.

That location is also six miles southeast of Arcadia, six miles southwest of Luther and 17 miles east-northeast of Oklahoma City.

A second earthquake, registered at a magnitude of 3.8, was confirmed by the OGS. It shook at 9:27 a.m. and was centered one mile east-northeast of Jones and six miles north of Choctaw. That location is also six miles north-northeast of Nicoma Park.

**(The United States Geological Survey has confirmed that a 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck central Oklahoma (about 17 miles northeast of Oklahoma City) at 9:18 this morning and a 3.8 magnitude earthquake at 9:27.

Though not known for its earthquakes, Oklahoma has been struck by three just this week. A 2.8 quake struck on Sunday, and a 3.3 quake hit early Thursday morning.)**

  • A study of seismic activity near Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport by researchers from SMU and UT-Austin reveals that the operation of a saltwater injection disposal well in the area was a "plausible cause" for the series of small earthquakes that occurred in the area between October 30, 2008, and May 16, 2009.

  • its normal??? or annormal???

  • @futrphd Earthquakes have their intensities whether youve felt hundreds or none. The 4.4 we ad, the intensity reports on earthquake.usgs.gov said that regular people that made a response said mainly III or II. This Oklahoma one the people responded with IV and V.

  • @TheBassguy1 when you live in an area where earthquakes are not a daily occurrence it is a big deal. Just like people who do not live in tornado alley make a big deal out of an EF 0 or EF 1 tornado or people who do not live in winter storm prone areas close down school/business for 2 inches of snow. It's all relative.

  • if we move out of california to live in tornado country, I would have missed the earthquakes, but it looks like oklahoma offers the best of both worlds!

  • lol i hate it when people have a friggin 3.1 or 4.0 and people get all scared and freak out and think theyre going to die and all. try a 4.4 on the epicenter, try a 4.8, try a 5.5, try a5.8 , try a 6.0, try a 7.2. Jesus people, grow up. anything in the 3's or lower 4's is nothing really to talk about.

  • @jprahhal I thought America was the source of globalization, maybe I misunderstood

  • lmao, you are just part of my troll binge, calm down. Im stationed in Iraq right now. This beats the hell outta tetris.

  • You are the dumbest person on gods green earth. I say if you dont have faith in the U.S. government then go to a foreign country if you think your better off with out this "hi-jacked government"
