  • Is there a foil coating on the inside front of the radio? Sometimes a spring is used to electrically connect a foil shield to ground in the radio, to prevent hand (body) capacitance from affecting the tuning of the radio. You will find most shortwave broadcasts in the late afternoon into nighttime. Good bands to tune in on are between 5.8 MHz and 15.8 MHz. At the higher range you may pick up daytime SW broadcasts. Yikes, since you have no display, my tuning tips aren't much help!

  • @sparkdetect

true, but good to know, thanks

  • Think you might see what County Comm has to say about this? I know the radios are fairly inexpensive, but sometimes curiosity wins out...

  • Good idea, we can give it a try at least

  • It's FUBAR :D

  • well i've been using it even with no scerrn.. it's not something I would carry around anymore, but in a pinch, it could still a source for some information in an emergency

  • YES! Parts left over!

  • The spring is for the tuner - it puts tension on the tuner making it more "sensitive"l

  • Thx, for the advice.

I think you would like the shortwave bands better with the reel antenna. I have had Grundig, Sony, Sangeen with the reel antenna. It makes a big difference.

  • These look identical to the Kaito KA202L I was looking at on Amazon
