Testing to see if the Zoom H2 handy recorder microphone can be used to record acting dialogue from a boom pole, as an alternative to the more traditional methods.
Note: Even watched in High Quality, this mono Youtube feed does not show up the stereo effects that are present on the original video.

This is all very well for people working to a small budget, but it's absolutely no replacement for professional kit. A Rycote-protected MKH60 on a CF boom, into a multi-channel mixer, will utterly out-perform this setup.

People can get away with poor pictures, but poor sound is unforgivable.

Well obviously pro kit is better than consumer kit. Does it even need to be said? This is YouTube mate. This video is aimed at 'hobby' film makers, many of whom are still at school and on pocket money budgets. The mic setup you suggest costs over $2000US. You're definitely at the wrong venue.

I'm a sound recordist and tend to agree with Rick. It all depends on what project you're working on, not just about the budget. If it's only for Youtube then whats the point of forking out for professional sound? One thing I will say though.. if sound IS an important aspect to your project then it's always best to get the BEST production sound you can afford as trying to "fix it in post" is a nightmare, often impossible to recover and will usually need to be ADR'd. (££££'s!)
