wood gas stove,bio fuel bushcraft, camping

Learned how to build a wood gas stove on line. I priced them $49 and up if you buy just one and I said "why not build one first". Out door use only dry wood helps paper is messy. Variable resistor burnt up so I wired it direct after that. This is my first video and it was dark. I need either a smaller fan or a larger burner I think I will go with a larger burner. I have to acquire the parts and fabricate. I figure if I get a 5 gallon metal paint bucket I can use a 2 lb coffee can for the bigger and better one.

hi guys bit of a silly question (new to this) attempting to build a "wood gas stove " like yours brought a small 12v computer fan and 12v AAbattrie pack and a variable resistor, wired it all up ,and for some reason the resistors not working.can u run a variable resistor off a 12v battrie pack? i did ask the guys that worked in maplins for sum help.........! little use. I dont even know if the resistor is right for the job.......HELP!

My fan melted so did the resistor. A better design would place distance between the fan and the burner. I Bought a 12 volt fan that airs up mattresses when I have interest in building another I plan to use a 5 gal can and a 1 gal can to build a large wood gas burner. There are wood gas designs that require no fan the thermal dynamics of the stove enhances combustion via up draught.

This little design could work I didn't like the little burn holes in clothes.

Would you believe my wife threw it away that was a great fan too. I want to build a pneumatic hand powered pump to use if needed. These things are just in case stuff should I need to use this it is just another feather in my cap. We have Coleman stove both propane and white gas you want to know many ways to survive solar oven is great for veggies and chicken great cooker if you know the weather for the day.

Nice job on the stove! Do you actually use this? Is it for the road when you're out truckin'? Why do you need the wood if the propane is doing the trick?

Can't have open flames when hauling chemicals. In the truck I use a burton oven and an electronic temp probe when I get to 200 degrees I take the tv dinner out. When on the road I don;t have time to cook I just heat up tv dinners usually eat a tv dinner 4 sliced of bread with margarine. I get the low sodium meals I can eat on $5 a day easy.

If you want to vary the speed of the fan, you can use a LM317 voltage regulator. This is just a three terminal device that uses a fixed resistor of 240 ohms and vaiable resistor of 10K ohms...it will handle 1500 ma with a small heat sink....all the parts would cost maybe 4 dollars at radio shack....The schematic is available online...just look google for LM317

You would like the rocket stove video I want to build one of those, My grand father had a wood stove he used in the shop it was 1/4" Steele you fire it to cherry red and the rest of the day you were good with radiant heat.

And does it burn clean the bottom of the pot is not sooty and the ashes are so fine that most ashes fly out during combustion. When you are done burning you have ash fine as powder no coals like at a bbq pit. What amazes me is what a difference this can make in a persons life that uses just a campfire. This is the closest to cooking on a stove and all combustion with local materials.
