To the young comedians working for Bill Maher's new film Religulous: You are going to have to do better than this, gentlemen.

If you honestly want The Rapture Right to trick people into thinking you are serious and one of them you will have to stop pretending to be stupid. You are not showing enough respect for the archetype you wish to portray, so it rings false. You will have to sound just a little smarter than the religious fanatics you are trying to trick. You should mainstream your spiel a bit more and quit trying to sound like stupid crazy religious fanatics. Sincerely and honestly believe in everything you say. If you cant convince yourself, you wont convince them. If your goal is to convince congregations of churches to go out and picket Mahers film, so Maher will by proxy get free publicity out of the deal, you have to do more than pretend to be one of them.

Itd help if you actually believed.

Failing that, your improvisational skills are too comedic. Be more serious and dramatic in your approach. Let the humor bleed through your performance. Dont look for punchlines. If you do it right theyll happen on their own. And for heavens sake, stop trying to crack each other up! If Bill Maher isnt paying you anything for doing this, he should be. You should at least be getting beer and pizza. Good effort, but not convincing.

What is funny is when Christianity is questioned and impugned Christians immediately step up to defend their god. The big question that should be asked is why should mortal humans need to defend the all powerful creator of the universe?? If the Christian god does exist, why does he need defending.
