Zleven here, giving you a basic explanation on how I record Psp gameplay without using custom firmware.

This advice video is not made for everyone...Yes I know that. However, if you want some decent high quality then I hope I am providing you with one of the options available as far as advice. If you don't like the advice...well then got d**n, my apologies, but I'm here to help who I can.

Keep in mind that just because you record it doenst mean you are done. You need to edit the video in your fave video editing program which means you actually have to do a bit more work....le gasp!! Yes I know it never stops. Don't worry it pays off later...

Oh! Also this method can be done even if you do have custom firmware :D.
It only works on Psp 2000s+

This method also allows you to record Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Xbox 360 gameplay.
-------------------------------------------------------------
One more thing to add. If you don't care about quality to much for your Psp, Wii, Ps3, or even Xbox 360 gameplay recordings you could just go with the Easycap USB Video Capture Adapter.
It's much, much cheaper than the Hauppauge HD Pvr.
Google it for more info!! :D

If you do decide to use the EasyCap method just keep in mind I believe you have to use Composite Cables, not Component.

If you can't tell the difference just remember Component cables have 5 cables.
Composite Cables have 3. And the EasyCap method uses Composite and I think it only works for the Psp 3000!
If I'm wrong let me know!

P.s. I forgot to mention, when you are using the TotalMedia Extreme software to record you can record the Psp gameplay in Ps3 mode or Xbox mode :o

  • I have a different capture device and recording program. My capture card does have the regular AV outlets, you know, Red, Yellow and White. Is it possible to plug my PSP into this? Since the wires weren't shown, I'm not sure.

  • @Ventus976

Read my info box below the video for some more tips, but from what I remember you should be able to use that cable... but your quality will be low. :(

  • i like your homescreen for your psp

  • @tHEWONDERszs

  • I have this exact set-up, but yet, when I turn my HD PVR on, it says the 'device is not connected, or is being used by another program'

    any ideas on the issue.

I have a PSP 2000, it's not running custom firmware, unless I use my HEN 6.2, which is only temporary until I turn it off. I got my component cable today, it may be faulty if this works for you.

  • does this work on psp 3003 ?

  • guess I'm stuck recording everything but portables =_= I got a stupid Dazzle. And don't get me wrong, look at my latest 2 videos. Systems you hook in your tv turn out amazing quality, but PSP AV quality I can't even see text in...sad part is that's the reason I got a dazzle was to record PSP games.

  • @Time4rpgs Well I have a Dazzle DVC Recorder as it is, and it has the same inputs as the EasyCap, but it only lets me record any PS1 games I have on my PSP since the system says it needs Component Cables to record PSP games, the EasyCap and Dazzle only take the Composite Cables. But I'll definitely check Amazon and Ebay, see if I can find a Hauppauge for cheap

  • @deadlykidCs

Well there are other cheaper alternatives like Easycap USB Capture for lesser quality.

    And easycap is hella cheap.

Also someone commented a long time ago you might be able to find a used Hauppauge on ebay or somewhere else online to save money.

  • @Time4rpgs Alright, I'll take your word for it. Just wish you kinda showed the actual setup you had. Still...$200 for this thing, it better be worth it.
