Dr. James Leary, CTAHR Weed Scientist, finds some good candidates among native Hawaiian plants for potential use as groundcover in organic farming systems (MA'O Organic Farms, Wai'anae). Naupaka (Scaevola taccada), nanea (Vigna marina), piligrass (Heteropogon contortus) and ahu awa (Cyperus javanicus) are used.
