Following Kevin Noah's tragic on the job death on Aug. 13, 2002
It quickly became apparent that the grief of loss was only to be the beginning of what those left behind would have to endure. At the hands of a mufti billion dollar corporation who would in the end be responsible for opening my eyes to the cruelest of lessons inside their corrupt world of corporate crime.
Where the only thing harder than exposing the truth is remaining silent.
On Aug 13, 2002 my life was changed forever. With the news of Kevin's death. The love of a lifetime was gone forever and his employer was tearing apart his memory one lie at a time. Without concern for the devastating toll it would take on his loved one's family and most importantly his children. Shimmick Obayashi would spend just over 5 years doing everything in its power to keep the truth hidden and escape justice. Today Kevin's case is viewed as one of the most difficult investigations in Cal-OSHA history and for good reason. Though both companies were slapped with several serious and willful violations by OSHA for their role in Kevin's death as well as being caught in lie after lie. In the end Kevin would receive no justice. And the Family no resolution.
And although they may have found themselves successful in their deceit.
They were unsuccessful in keeping the truth from existing. Despite the millions of dollars spent to cover it up.

The Truth...
On the morning of August 13, 2002 Kevin Noah lost his life working on phase 2 of the golden gate bridge's seismic retrofit for the negligent "SHIMMICK OBAYASHI JOINT VENTURE" and after five long years of unsuccessful attempts to rid themselves of guilt. They would throw out one last hail mary in court claiming that were not liable for their role in Kevin's death because the citations issued by OSHA had incorrectly identified them as
"SHIMMICK OBAYASHI JOINT VENTURE" rather than
"SHIMMICK CONSTRUCTION, OBAYASHI CORPORATION, JOINT VENTURE"
And just like that everything was thrown out of court.

I still have Kevin's work badge and the visitors badge issued while the bridge was on code orange alert for terrorist attacks. Which no one was granted access to the bridge without As The badges were the only form of legal identification for both the company and its employees.

The Corporate Killers Award in 2007
For their blatant disregard of workplace safety, Their criminally corrupt practices to escape justice and last but not least every last article they had published boasting about how they won an award for no time lost to illness or injury on the Golden Gate Bridge.

Still missing you Kevin. Everyday I feel the loss and, everyday I still believe that one day the honor you were denied and, the justice you deserve will come to exist. Despite all that has been done to prevent it from happening, I still believe in truth and it's ability to expose the lie's.

Just incase its not common knowledge should anyone be under the assumption that this kind of tragedy is not a common occurrence for Shimmick or Obayashi think again! Obayashi has many preventable fatalities in its past as does Shimmick the problem is both companies are wealthy enough to buy injustice and silence. Guess this time that wasn't an option as lifesaver001 obviously puts the value of human life before the corporate dollar. It's about time someone did.

Do you mean that You had no idea of SOJV atrocious safety record or you just didn't know about this particular tragedy? As there were many others, This one of course is referred to by OSHA officials as the worst case in Cal_OSHA History
