@bocal701how can frozen be better than fresh? the meat structure changes when it is frozen, also are you allowed to keep wild coho on the river?,where i live it is only hatchery,on a barbless hook

@gmachine19 So cutting the tails off won't be as effective? I saw it done on catfish. Does it depend on the type of fish how you're supposed to bleed it?

One thing you should remember when bleeding a fish on a busy river... Clean any trails of blood off of the beach. You don't want people flocking your spot when they see blood on the beach ;)

@thabood Most larger fish do. I also spray blood off of panfish filet's after I clean them but cutting their gills beforehand isn't necessary. Blood does not freeze well and turns a nasty brown color if you don't remove it. When processed right, the Filet's will keep for up to two years in the freezer. Blood and oxygen are enemies of frozen fish. When processed right, frozen is actually better than "fresh" fish.
