MY TOP 50 LIST TIDBITS:
1. Of the 50 songs, 35 were #1 Billboard hits.
2. All songs in this list are studio recordings, except for one. 'Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain' is live audio from Willie Nelson's Austin City Limits performance.
3. This list started out with a total of 173 songs.
4. Song in this list with the lowest Billboard ranking is 'Independence Day' by Martina McBride. This song was highly criticized by the country music industry due to the nature of the story in the song. It peaked at #12 on the Billboard charts.
5. Song in my top 50 list that gave me the most trouble in deciding where it should go was 'Fancy' by Reba McEntire. Why? I have no idea. Hard to believe that that song only reached #8 on the Billboard charts.
6. Oldest song in my top 50 list was released in 1949.
7. Artist with the most songs in my top 50 list. Tie between Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson, all of which have 3 songs in my top 50.
8. Youngest artist (at the time of recording) in my top 50. Tie between Tanya Tucker and Leann Rimes, both of which were only 13 when their hits were recorded.
9. The newest song in my top 50 list was recorded in 2008.
10. There is a total of 39 different artists/groups in my top 50 list, only 10 of which are female.
11. 6 of the 39 artists in my top 50 are now deceased. R.I.P. Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Johnny Paycheck, Patsy Cline, Mel McDaniel, Kieth Whitley and Waylon Jennings.
We all hear and feel songs in different ways. We all have our own favorites that have special meaning to us. Or there's that one song that always gets your feet tappin' and over time ends up being one of your favorites even though it wasn't even a hit. Ranking top songs of any genre is almost impossible because of our own tastes in music and because of how an individual song holds special meaning to certain people for certain reasons. I tried my hardest to not be biased when I sat down to make this list. I have been working on this list for a couple months, and during that time I probably switched songs up and down the list hundreds of times. To be true to myself and the music I love, I ended up going back to my very first list and decided to stick with my instincts. I favor older country music, but I didn't want to make a top 50 list and it end up being an oldies list. I tried to include some newer songs while still trying to divide up which is better than the other, and at the same time try to cover a few decades. The top 10 were actually the easiest, well, easier than the other 40. I thought it would be the other way around. Anyway, I really hope you enjoy what I have done. Country music is more than just music to me,and I hope with this list I was able to share with you what country music is all about.
Nice list, love 'em all, still i miss something of John Denver, Conway Twitty, Frankie Laine, Loretta Lynn, Lynn Anderson, Kris Kristofferson, but damn' there are so many great artists that made so damn'many great songs! And i think Jambalaya should be in there as well... But hey, i understand it's difficult ;)

@Werner170 Yes it is very difficult, lol. I actually had most of those names on my list when I first started out. After dwindling the list down some, some of the older classic singers got cut in my attempt to include songs from numerous decades so it wouldn't end up being just an 'oldies' list. But I do enjoy those that you listed. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. :)

@Luke73470 Thanks for stopping by. Yeah not many females made my top 25, but there are a few more in the 50-26 list. I don't particularly like Garth myself, but I couldn't not include his songs just because how I feel about him personally. His songs are still great no matter what. I myself didn't see 'Friends In Low Places' as a top 50 song. Sure it was popular but just not top50 material in my opinion. Thanks again for stopping by.
